The Queensland Renewable Energy Council (QREC) is pleased to see that the ongoing and significant deployment of renewables to support the energy transition, and meet Queensland’s renewable targets, has been raised as a key issue during the Queensland election campaign.
QREC Chief Executive Officer Katie-Anne Mulder said Queensland is well-placed to drive a coordinated transition, owning its coal-fired power stations together with significant ownership of new renewable energy generating assets.
“The Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan has driven substantial Australian and foreign investment into the Sunshine State in renewable energy development, with Queensland projects reaching capital value upwards of $1 billion,” Ms Mulder said.
“Regional Queensland must be central to this new renewable energy development opportunity which will drive broader economic development and social benefit as well as maintain our place in the global export marketplace with products made from clean energy.
“QREC looks forward to working with the next Government and key stakeholder groups, including first nations, agriculture, resources and tourism, to balance the priorities of government, community and industry for a strong renewables future.”
