The Queensland Renewable Energy Council (QREC) and its members have met with the State Planner on the revisions to the state wind farm planning code. The revisions were announced by the Deputy Premier on Friday and due to start on Monday (3 February).

QREC Chief Executive Officer Katie-Anne Mulder said QREC had been working with the agriculture sector and local government to strengthen community engagement in the renewable project planning process being reviewed by the Crisafulli Government.

“Our industries and a wide range of stakeholders across the State have been committed to the Government’s Draft Renewables Regulatory Framework consultation process, with submissions due this weekend,” Ms Mulder said.

The revisions to the Code and broader regulation must be workable and provide greater confidence for investors, developers, hosts – primary producers and their communities – and customers of renewable energy projects.”

“Queensland’s population is growing rapidly. By the time of the 2028 State election, our population is expected to exceed six million. As we face this growth, it’s clear that we need every available resource to meet demand.

To ensure we can meet our energy needs, it’s essential to have a clear understanding of Queensland’s energy plan and the frameworks for assessing projects. These elements must work together seamlessly. This alignment is critical for securing private investment and ensuring Queensland’s energy supply remains sustainable, reliable, and affordable.

The Crisafulli Government made it clear in its Draft Renewables Regulatory Framework Discussion Paper that: Queensland is emerging as a leader in renewable energy, attracting substantial investment across the State. These investments help the State’s existing industries by maintaining global competitiveness with access to, cleaner, cheaper, secure energy. They are also paving the way for new opportunities, critical minerals, and advanced manufacturing powered by renewables. The Queensland Government is committed to developing world leading practice in the delivery of energy infrastructure.”

“We look forward to ongoing consultative engagement with the Government on the next steps in the development of the broader framework.”
