The Queensland Renewable Energy Council (QREC) acknowledges the State Government’s planning laws for renewable energy projects start today, marking a new phase for the State’s energy transformation.
QREC and its members remain committed to working closely with local communities and councils to ensure the development and delivery of renewable energy projects deliver lasting local benefits while contributing to a more secure, affordable and sustainable electricity system for Queensland households and industries.
While the introduction of the legislation provides a framework for community engagement and regional development, it has also introduced uncertainty for immediate investment decisions.
QREC is working with the State Government to provide a clear and coordinated pathway through the forthcoming Queensland Energy Roadmap to give investors confidence and enable industry to continue delivering the renewable energy projects Queensland needs.
Independent analysis by the Queensland Audit Office has also confirmed the value of renewables to the State’s energy system, finding that “the increased generation from renewable energy has contributed to a fall in wholesale electricity prices” for households and businesses.
QREC looks forward to working constructively with the Government to ensure the new planning laws and the Energy Roadmap together deliver clarity, confidence and benefits for all Queenslanders.
