Renewable energy projects in development and planning will ensure there is enough affordable and reliable electricity for one million new homes the Crisafulli Government has committed to deliver across Queensland by 2044.
Queensland Renewable Energy Council (QREC) Chief Executive Officer Katie-Anne Mulder said the Crisafulli Government’s Residential Activation Fund was already supporting plans for 77,000 new homes across the State.
“To deliver those homes, Queensland needs more energy. The Energy Roadmap is the opportunity to ensure Queensland electricity generation matches demand from households as well as from business and industry,” she said.
Ms Mulder said renewables were not only the lowest-cost form of new electricity generation, renewables were also the most widely supported by Queensland households themselves.
“More than one-in-three Queensland homes have rooftop solar installations, the highest rate of any Australian state or territory,” she said.
Ms Mulder said QREC’s Queensland Renewables Growth & Investment Strategy shows that Queensland already has over 16 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity in operation and a pipeline of more than 45 GW of committed and advanced projects.
“These projects – wind, solar, pumped hydro and batteries – will deliver the clean, reliable electricity that is essential to supporting new communities, new industries, and new jobs,” she said.
“The Government’s Energy Roadmap must clearly set out the additional generation and storage capacity required to meet the housing boost and the State’s growing population.
“Queensland’s renewable energy industry is ready to partner with governments, industry and communities to ensure that every new home is powered by affordable, reliable, and sustainable clean energy,” she said.
