The Queensland Renewable Energy Council (QREC) has welcomed the Queensland Government’s call for registrations of interest in the $200 million North West Energy Fund.

The North West Energy Fund, managed by Queensland Investment Corporation, has been established to support improved energy affordability and reliability for communities across the North West, including Mount Isa, Cloncurry, Julia Creek and Richmond while the CopperString transmission project progresses.

QREC Chief Executive Officer Katie-Anne Mulder said the initiative reinforces the practical role renewable energy is already playing in Queensland.

“Renewable energy, supported by storage and new transmission, is essential to delivering reliable and affordable electricity for homes and businesses across the State.”

Ms Mulder said targeted investment in regional energy infrastructure and generation projects will help ensure communities in remote and regional Queensland benefit from the energy transition.

“The North West Energy Fund is a practical example of how the Energy Roadmap can translate into real projects that support local communities, strengthen energy security and unlock economic development in regional Queensland,” she said.

QREC said renewable energy developers and investors are ready to work with the Queensland Government and regional communities to identify projects that can deliver reliable power and long-term economic opportunities for the North West.
