The Queensland Government must provide certainty to proponents of all major projects—whether in resources, residential development, or renewables—that approvals granted by the State will be upheld.
The cancellation of the Moonlight Range Wind Farm in Central Queensland—despite it receiving conditional approval under the Crisafulli Government on 5 December last year—risks undermining confidence among developers, investors, and suppliers across all infrastructure sectors, not just renewable energy.
It is essential that the Queensland Government clarify how this decision does not set a precedent for other projects that have received State Government approvals.
QREC and its members are deeply committed to working constructively with stakeholders—such as local councils, agricultural industry representatives, and Coexistence Queensland—including the development of a comprehensive toolkit to guide renewable energy project developers.
We are also actively participating in the Parliamentary Committee inquiry into the Planning (Social Impact and Community Benefit) and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2025, currently before the Parliament.
The proponents of the Moonlight Range Wind Farm are not members of QREC, and we are not in a position to comment on the specifics of their project or their community engagement process.
